Darkes Forest is a locality about 3km WNW of Flat Rock Junction and about 1km north of Darkes Forest Park, crossing the local government areas of Wollongong and Wollondilly. Darkes Forest is a suburb of South Coast, New South Wales and is about 45 kms south-southwest of NSW's capital city of Sydney. In the 2011 Australian census the population of Darkes Forest was 260 when there were 106 Females and 154 Males living there.
