Point Lowly is a suburb of Far North, South Australia and is about 227 kms north-northwest of SA's capital city of Adelaide. In the 2011 Australian census the population of Point Lowly was 299 when there were 131 Females and 168 Males living there. The median age for people living in Point Lowly was 37. Point Lowly is the tip of a small peninsula north north-east of Whyalla in the Upper Spencer Gulf region of South Australia. The wider peninsula is shared by a combination of defence, industrial, residential, recreational and tourism interests. Point Lowly marks the entrance to the narrow basin of upper Spencer Gulf. Wind generated waves dominate the upper Spencer Gulf coastline which is protected from the ocean swell. The area has regular dodge tides every fortnight.
