Rushworth is known as 'the Gold and Ironbark town'. Rushworth is located 181 km north of Melbourne via the Hume Freeway and Goulburn Valley Highway. It is 145 m above sea-level. At the 2011 census, Rushworth had a population of 1,381. Rushworth is situated in hilly, agriculturally unattractive country which is mainly taken up by the Rushworth ironbark forest.
