Ulverstone is a town on the northern coast of Tasmania, Australia on the mouth of the Leven River, on Bass Strait. It is on the Bass Highway, 21 kilometres (13 mi) west of Devonport and 12 kilometres (7 mi) east of Penguin. At June 2015 Ulverstone had an estimated urban population of 14,726, being the fifth largest town or city in Tasmania. Ulverstone is a part of the municipality of the Central Coast Council which also includes Penguin, Turners Beach, Leith, Gawler and surrounds, and Forth. The bustling seaside town of Ulverstone at the mouth of the Leven River is a laid-back getaway with abundant birdlife, family-friendly swimming beaches, coastal paths and scenic picnic spots. Panoramic views of Ulverstone can be seen from the quirky zigzag gardens in Maud Street, and river cruises head 7 km upstream for lunch on the riverbank. There's good fishing to be had in the river and estuary, too.
